The Night Circus Book Club

Last week saw the second of our bookclub meetings. It was Black and white with a touch of red- just like the Reveurs who visit 'The Night Circus'.

Now I don't know if anyone has read it, liked it or loathed it, but needless to say- it was a great choice for book club. Personally, I really liked it and loved all the description- so it was an easy step to make to decorate my apartment ready for the meeting. Setting the scene was easy- and a lot of fun.
This time, rather than just doing it on my own, my friend Marie helped out too- making invites, finding discussions questions and adding to our snack table.
We decided not to have 'proper food' and just have some snacks inspired by the book- but this still meant that I could go to town on making decorations:)
However, for whatever reasons- I didn't actually take any decent photos, so you'll just have to put up with some half hearted ones and take the ideas and go with it!- This was not like me at all! I'm usually snap happy!

I made a banner (or three?!) out of playing cards and ribbon.

And strung them up wherever there was room! I've still got one hanging- I like it!

I also printed out some of the different front cover images. Now I've seen various ones, I'm hankering after the UK hardback copy-it's lovely!
We made little cones of pick and mix sweets and big cones full of popcorn.

For our discussion questions Marie made business cards, just like in the book, but added a question to the back.

These were usually enough to set someone off talking and then we would go off on a tangent..!
All washed down by a glass of wine or two.
And did you notice our dress code- Black and white, with a hint of red!
The circus inspired nibbles were tucked into, well into the evening:)

Top left and clockwise- (Black and white nibbles, chocolate mice, Toffee apples, circus cupcakes, cinnamon twists, black and white biscuits)
At the end of the evening there were little goody bags to take home of sweeties and a homemade gift.
I made little brooches from an old book and buttons-
And of course- it had to be the Night Circus colours too!

So there you are- a short and sweet visit to our book club. I'd love to know if anyone else has read it and what you thought of it.
Our next book is 'The One Hundred Year old Man who Climbed out of a Window'-  but I get a break from hosting- not that i'm too bothered- I like all the creative stuff that goes along with it:)

Until next time,
Take care,
Amanda

  1. It's not a book that I have come across or read, so I cannot comment from that point of view, but your decorations and little gifts and so on all look beautiful! I am sure that everyone had a great evening. xx

  3. This is excellent. I love hosting Theme evenings and yours is wonderful. It sounds as though you all had a fabulous evening. Not sure how the next hostess will cope with the next Bookclub book though! Loved the brooches.

  5. Wow, you put so much effort into hosting these events. I'd loved to have been there to see it all. I really enjoyed Night Circus with my lovely hardback cover ;) particularly the descriptions of the different tents. It does remind me of my daughter being in hospital though as that's what I read at her bedside! x
